About Me
Grade: 10th
School: Buckingham Browne & Nichols School
Parent(s)/Guardian: Kafi Meadows and Karsten Cash
Extracurricular Activities
I have danced at the Roxbury Center for the Performing Arts for the past twelve years, and have played basketball both in and out of school for five years. I stay interscholastically involved year round, participating in three seasons of sports being: Volleyball, Basketball, and Track & Field. As well as involving myself within various diversity and equity organizations including Black Student Union (BSU), Students Honoring and Accepting Differences and Embracing Similarities (SHADES), Student DEIG Steering Committee, and DEIG Student Leaders. These are student-run groups focused on amplifying underrepresented voices and connecting members of minority groups. Over the summer and during the school year, I am a First Year LIT at Camp Harbor View Boston, where I develop and practice leadership skills while working with younger students. In addition, I have served as an acolyte at my family's church for the past eight years strengthening my faith and building strong morals. During the winter season I performed in Langston Hughes’ Black Nativity, produced by the National Center for Afro-American Artists; this year concluded my 9th year.

Community Service:
Through the Buckingham Browne and Nichols School I have participated in three service learning days, where students split among various volunteer organizations and give back to their community. I assisted at Catie’s Closet in Hyde Park MA, Boston Area Gleaners in Acton MA, and cleaned up around Boston’s Charles River. I have also been involved in the AKA’s MLK day of service since 2017, where through various different events I have been able to broaden my understanding of the needs of my community and the methods being taken to solve them.

Anticipated College /Course of Study:
Throughout my college and post-graduate education, I would like to ultimately choose a career that both helps my community in the present and supports them in the future. Through pursuing engineering and math, I will be able to help develop technology to further our advancements, supporting our current community and aiding future inventions and developments. I am also interested in studying social sciences or law to be able to help individuals in a more personal and in depth manner. Through this work I’d be able to see positive change now, as well as setting up future generations with better emotional and environmental foundations. Though I haven’t yet committed to a college, I’ve committed to a goal of positively impacting my community and setting them up for a better future.

Career Aspirations
In my future, I’d like my work to leave behind a legacy of hard work and compassion. I would like to pass on my love for the arts, to not only develop my own skills, but also inspire others to find means of expression within the arts as well. I’d also like to use my education and experiences to bring people closer, whether it be through my career of choice, or through various skills I’ve collected, such as an aptitude for languages.

Favorite Quote/Scripture/ Author:
“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God has forgiven you.” Ephesians 4:32

What do you like to do for fun?
I love the arts, specifically the performing arts. I dance and sing even outside of my extracurricular commitments, as well as playing electric guitar and listening to music. I am an album collector, most specifically CDs. I enjoy spending quality time with friends and family, and make sure to carve out time for my relationships within my extremely full schedule. I like reading and writing in my free time as well. My favorite type of literature isn’t limited to one genre (although dystopia would be a favorite), but books that convey an author's view of the world around us, books that give historical context and introduce a new viewpoint I haven’t thought of yet.
