Grade: 11th
School: Fontbonne Boston Academy
Parent(s)/Guardian: Denton and Taunya Garrett

Extracurricular Activities

At Fontbonne, I’m actively involved in the Black Student Union, where I connect with peers to celebrate and advocate for Black culture and issues that matter to us. I also have a deep love for languages, especially French. My passion grew during a French exchange program in France, where I was immersed in the culture and language. That experience strengthened my appreciation for diversity and global perspectives. I continue practicing French in creative ways, even using it while babysitting in my community.

Community Service:

Community service is a big part of who I am. I volunteer at St. Agatha’s School, helping elementary and middle school students with homework, and I support Community Servings, an organization that prepares meals for people living with chronic illnesses. These experiences have taught me empathy, patience, and the importance of serving others.

Anticipated College /Course of Study:

Looking ahead, I aspire to attend a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) and major in psychology or French linguistics.

Career Aspirations

My ultimate goal is to become a psychiatrist or behavioral scientist, combining my interest in mental health with my love for language and culture to better understand human experiences.

Favorite Quote/Scripture/ Author:

My favorite scripture, Jeremiah 29:11, reminds me that every day has purpose: “For I know the plans I have for you…” This verse inspires me to trust in God’s plan and embrace every opportunity that comes my way.

What do you like to do for fun?

Outside of academics and volunteering, I enjoy movies, diverse music, and spending quality time with loved ones. I’m outgoing and compassionate, and I value loyalty deeply—it’s something I believe is fragile and hard to repair once broken. I also love storytelling and find joy in fairy tales, as well as spontaneous moments that bring laughter and lasting memories. Most importantly, my faith in God is the foundation of my life. I feel blessed to experience life fully and look forward to all the opportunities ahead.
